When it comes to a watch for the beach bum, nothing beats the classics... with the Seiko SKX009 or SKX007. Sure, a Rolex Submariner is the real classic with this diver look; but then again, if you are travelling to a few islands and needed a disposable watch on the cheap, you won't find many other better options than the Seiko's pair.
This Raya, besides the times when I went for more official open houses whereby a Rolex Submariner or Daytona would looked more presentable, the one watch that had been accompanying me about was the humble o' SKX009J1.
For a watch that cost less than RM1.6k these days (for the non-J1 series anyway), you were really getting a lot of watch for the monies paid, and with lots of history going for it. Sure, it had a rather simple and unsophisticated non-winding and non-hacking movement; but that's part of the charm behind the whole thing.
The Z22 rubber strap that came with the SKX009 was rubbish, as could be read online by hundreds of such reviews. I matched mine with a 3D jubilee bracelet from Strapcode, and the watch wore much better thereafter.
Indeed, nothing beats the classics...
