If I have to restructure my collection to only 5 pieces, I think that I would move towards this direction (at this juncture, anyway) :
Rolex : Rolex Sky-Dweller
- Yes, Rolex gets its own genre because it is just so desirable. And you can't beat the new Sky-Dweller on the Rolex-o-meter at this interim period. So practical a complication, in a very Rolex package. What else could you ask for.
Diver : Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean James Bond
- Every boy wants to play the role of James Bond the flamboyant spy; but in time (all pun intended), we all grew up to be doctors, lawyers, accountants, and the likes. But we could still put on a Planet Ocean from the James Bond movies, and make-pretend that we were saving the world. Until the wife called out to us to run more chores, that is.
Space : Omega Speedmaster Panda
- Every watch lover needs a chronograph in his or her collection, and the toss of the coin would go to either the Rolex Daytona or Omega Speedmaster. But to have a Speedmaster in Panda format and red accents, would be an added bonus and I can't reiterate enough how much of a wrist presence this piece had been over time.
Train : Ball Engineer ii Genesis 50th Anniversary
- Being a 50th anniversary limited edition issuance, this piece was armed to the tooth with the thickest tritium tubes in their arsenal, causing the Genesis to shine like a torch in the still of the night. Sure, the sunburst blue dial was mesmerising; but turn behind to check out the engraving of the train and that's where the real fun starts!
G-Shock : Rangeman Military
- Everyone needs a rough and tough G-Shock in the collection, and it helps if the G-Shock in question does actually serve a purpose besides just trying to act tough. In this case, the built-in sensors for barometer, altimeter, temperature, etc would be enough for the typical adventurer to look cool while being tough at the same time.
Greetings from sunny California. Great choice of timepieces there, Andy!
