X'mas Seiko Dreams

I am still considering if I should go for the Seiko MarineMaster Tuna model no. SBDX014 with its pricing stabling down to circa RM10k+ compared to the earlier premium during its initial release. If its Seiko 50th Anniversary Marine Master Tuna model no. SBDX016 sibling was still available (at a premium of USD500), then it would be a no-brainer of a choice but it seemed that the SBDX016 was pretty much sold-out at most places.

Another Seiko watch that I had been anticipating was the Seiko Giugiaro LE model nos. SCED035 and SCED037. If the watches looked familiar to you, it was because these were the re-release versions of the initial Giugiaro watch as worn by Sigourney Weaver in the original Alien movie. Also seemed to be sold-out on most sites, I would be scouting around to wait for the ADs to re-stock on these memorable Alien watches.

I dare say that the condition of the watch was pretty good for a watch more than 2 years old, and it still ticks beautifully. I am sure that the Pelagos would continue its function well, well into many more years to come given Rolex's impeccable attention to form and function. Cheers.

The Tonight Show with...

I'm watching The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, that we have recorded on Astro IPTV and after a couple of good laughs, decided to go back to basics for the night.

The kids were fast asleep (they were bushed from a well-planned day involving morning playground fun, Sunday school, afternoon pool soak, a nap, a rainy night out soaking in the Deepavali festive concert at Brickfields, before stopping by Moonlight Cake House for the delicious durian cakes), wife was catching up with her lady friends; so I took out my Cape Cod polishing cloth and decided to devote some attention to my babies in the winder.

Yup, the Red Tuna was my pick for the weekend. It is a very handsome and macho watch, and the orange Iso really made it all the more attractive, IMHO.

In a perfect world, the Omega Speedy Panda in the winder would be the 35th Anniversary Panda as per the following, but it's not and it's all right. Am still searching for a beautiful piece of hand-winding Speedy Professional to complement my collection though.

And the watch that had generated a fair bit of e-mails and PMs of late was the very toolish Tudor Pelagos.

When I travel, I like to have the Pelagos on its titanium bracelet.

Sometimes, I have my Pelagos matched to the Tudor-issued rubber strap.

Ever since I placed the advert intending its sale as I was expecting the arrival of the Ocean Gold Tuna and Seiko 50th Anniversary Tuna twins, there had been lots of offers. Most of the offers were circa RM10k (someone offered to match my asking price of RM10.5k tonight), the lowest were 2 new forum members whom offered RM5k and RM7.5k respectively (although I guessed that they were just trying their luck), and there were 2 trade offers for the following watches :

A reader, AW offered his Seiko Tuna piece.

Another reader, Iman offered his Tudor Heritage piece.

Since the Ocean Gold Tuna was no longer available from the seller, I was somewhat reluctant to let go off the Tudor Pelagos as I knew that I would not be able to replace it given the higher price that it was going for these days. Another forummer told me that it was retailing at circa RM18k new these days, no thanks to the GST and low RM value from the downward-spiralling Forex. I guess the Pelagos remained the best-demanded Tudor given its modern classic looks and versatile strap changes.

Earlier, the night, there was another offer from a forummer whom had initially wanted to get my Tudor Pelagos, and have thereafter offered a trade with his Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue. Between the Chrono Black and Chrono Blue, I would say that I have always had a liking towards the blue piece (as evidenced from quite a few write-ups over the years) so that had me swaying about. Let's see how this goes then. Keep your eyes peeled on this blog space.

Pending : Ocean Gold Tuna

I was really interested in the Ocean Gold Tuna (SBDX016) selling at RM12,500 and got in touch with the seller on the purchase. I was holidaying in Redang Isle during that time, and internet connectivity was not too smooth so I informed him that I would make the PayPal transfer when I get back to KL in a few days' time.

After I got back, I was informed that another buyer had made an offer on the Ocean Gold Tuna, so it was spoken for. The seller informed me that the non-LE SBDX014 was still available though, in limited quantities on-hand.

Do you think I should switch to that piece instead? That piece was selling at RM10,400 and was essentially the same watch but in different colours, but I still prefer the Ocean Gold Tuna. Time to ponder over...

Twin Arrivals : Seiko 50th Anniversary Tunas

"Hello... is it me you're looking for?"

Readers would know that I was expecting a set of twin Tunas as blogged @ In-coming Tunas, courtesy of a friend. I actually had the Blue Tuna already (warranty card dated 10/9/2015), but since I was expecting the twins' arrival (and I don't need 2 pieces of the same Blue Tuna), I offered it to one of the readers whom made an offer on my Tudor Pelagos.

TM wanted to get this off me...

... and ended up getting this instead. And saved RM8k in the process.

The Blue Tuna is a Seiko 50th anniversary edition and selling at RM2,650 (if you could get it in the local ADs, that is- it goes really fast!); and since that piece was 1+ month old, I sold it off at RM2,200 and the buyer was happy as heck. TM's rationale was that he was prepared to part with RM10,500 for the Pelagos, and he therefore still have RM8,300 left over after getting the Blue Tuna.

So the courier arrived today, and I quickly tore open the packaging. And there you have it- the twin Tunas sitting macho in their respective boxes.

I didn't have time to marvel over the Tunas as yet, as I promised my boys that I would take them to the playground earlier. But I did have time to quickly slapped on a pair of orange Iso to brighten up the Red Tuna, and while the boys were having fun climbing all over, I had time to admire this piece from the sides.

She's a beauty alright- a brute at it's size, but wears beautifully given its scalloped rear. Ummm, I meant the picture below, actually.

In-coming : Seiko Tuna(s)

I received quite a few queries as to what watches were in-coming to my collection. Well, I had wanted to only do the reviews when the watches arrived in due course; but since there were so much interests, then we might as well just sneak a peek.

I would be hosting a family friend to our place around Christmas, and she has actually been to Malaysia a couple of times and we always played hosts to her. Well, this year, she decided that she was going to come bearing gifts and knowing that I liked watches, she was recommended by another fellow friend to get a his-and-hers Seiko Scallop Tuna in Blue & Red. She searched online and found that the retail prices in UK was £499 each; but at some sites, she could get a whole lot cheaper due to the low Malaysian currency in the interim period.

She informed us after she had made the purchases, and I guess it was too late to inform her that I already had a Blue Tuna actually. Oh well, might as well just go with it... although we would need to find her an even more deserving gift too given the value of her gifts.

Hmmm, what better gift than to play matchmaker, eh? Any stable and handsome guys interested in a BBC professional lady in her 30's could apply herein. Be warned though that the filtering process would be tedious as her previous boyfriends were reportedly unable to succumb to her demands in bed. Yup, she's quite frank in that aspect.

And my better half had found me googling on the updated Emperor Tuna once too often (make that, daily); so she has put her foot down that I might as well just choose 1 of them for an up-coming gift. I informed her that I would rather keep the spare cash around given the way the the economy was doing these days, plus my winder was full anyway.

So she went ahead and got a new 2-watch winder, and she told me that we could utilise some of the funds from Alex's recent advertisements' modelling fees (yes, my boy was spotted by some casting agencies and had shot a few television advertisements, and further been selected for some calendar spots although we were still undecided if we wanted to go for the prints- you could say that I was a real proud Daddy for my boy!). My boy, young as he was, told me that I was always buying gifts for them and not for myself; and that he wanted to get me a gift too. Those words were gift enough for me actually, tears notwithstanding.

So, if you were to choose between the 2 following watches, which one would you go for? I am pretty much gaming for Ocean Gold at this point.

Oh well, might as well take the time during this holiday (yup, taking the family to the East Coast for some quality time) to think on which one would the mouse be clicking on. Hmmm...

Sold : 2013 Tudor Pelagos full boxed set and more

With in-coming watches to reach our shores soon, am letting go one of my fave watches i.e. the toolish (Titanium Grade 5) and handsome Tudor Pelagos, to make way for the slots in the winder. Those whom know me know that I tend to baby my watches, and this piece was no different. In good condition and worn in rotation with my other pieces. Lume is spectacular as the Pelagos was known for.

Comes in full boxed set with inner and outer sleeves, warranty card, manual, the avantgarde Tudor titanium bracelet, the comfortable Tudor rubber strap, and the elusive Tudor Nato strap (this being a bonus as it was for the Heritage series). Yes, 3 straps in total! Preferably COD at Mont Kiara, or could be verified at RSC at the buyer's cost. Letting go fast at RM11k. Thanks for your interest.
