Franken Mod : Seiko SuMMo

This was how the typical Sumo looked like fresh out of AD.

So another one of our modification job was back and this was how it looked like now. Personally, I thought that it looked gorgeous. The piece began its life as a factory-issued Sumo @ SBDC031 as manufactured in Japan.

I bought it a couple of months back with the intention to turn it into a MM300 homage; and as the project progressed on, I managed to source for the original SBDX017 dial and hands set, SBDX017 rubber strap, Crystaltimes double-dome sapphire crystal, and LCBI lumed ceramic bezel insert.

If you wished to commission the same transformation and upgrade, you would need to procure the following :

Cost of the watch and parts would amount to RM3,853, plus workmanship of RM300; so total invested in this piece amounted to RM4,153. However, just take a look at the final resulting piece and it's a worth it.

Workmanship took over a month, as I gave the watchsmith the necessary time required to have it looking as purr-fect as possible. Well, it looked marvellous the moment I unboxed the package sent in by the watchsmith. Nice alignments- and it was not an easy feat given the curvature of the DD sapphire crystal.

Given that DD sapphire crystal had clear AR coating, the dial looked like it had more depth than usual. The reflection of the indices and hands in the light, was simply breath-taking. Zaratsu polishing seen clearly for sure.

How about the lume then? Well, just a short exposure to the hall lights had it glowing like a torch!

This was how it looked attached to the original Sumo bracelet.

While I had ready a pair of MM300 rubber to pair with this modded piece, I decided to try the  premium vintage leather strap from Kain Heritage's Vintage Sub series; and they were quite the match.

What do you think- should I pair it with the above vintage leather strap, or go with the original bracelet?

So there you have it, dear readers. My Sumo promoted to be SuMMo- haha, a MarineMaster Sumo :) So now, it's like a Sumo wrestler, but dressed in power suit.

  1. Aku nak mod cam Datuk jugak, tapi lepas tanya kat tukang jam, dia suruh sediakan RM5900. Macam tak masuk akal pulak. Saya tunjukkan cerita Datuk kat sini, baru RM4153, dia kata sekarang dah susah nak buat dalam harga Datuk. Betul ke ni?
