The Next Catch : Rolex GMT-Master II 116710 / 116713

The GST would be kicking in come April 1st, and consumers would be looking at an additional 6% increment in the purchase price real soon. People seemed to be snapping off items like crazy, with the notion that it was still better to buy now before the GST moves in rather than later.

The local economy ain't doing great, and the fiasco involving 1MDB were reportedly creating enough cold sweat to have contributed to the depreciating MYR. SPAD wanted to increase the public transportation costs. And with all the increments going round, I dare say that the general salarymen were feeling the walls closing in as the salaries were not increasing in tandem to the costs of living.

Of course, all that was before calculating in the costs of hair-dressing. The First Lady would know better.

Admist all the doom and gloom, let's turn back to our love of the horology world to get us through the times, all pun intended.

I was looking through my journey through the horology pieces, and found that I had flipped through many different brands and designs; but that I generally have a preference towards the diver genre. Yet, I don't dive so 100m was probably as good a WR as I would ever really need.

I tend to fly inter-country almost every other fortnightly; so a GMT would be a good watch for me.

Put 2 and 2 together, and I then realised that a good watch that I should add to my collection was the Rolex GMT-Master II actually.

Diver design - checked.
GMT functionality - checked.
WR at least 100m - checked.
Wrist presence - checked.

Voila, answer for next purchase found! Now to seek for the Home Finance Minister's approval.

Where did I place my armour, I wonder?

NB : Some readers wrote-in and commented that I should look at the 116719 BLRO (Pepsi) from Baselworld 2014. It's not that I don't want to as I simply love the Pan-Am white gold piece; but at the RRP of 36,500 CHF (equivalent to circa RM138,800, before the GST of 6% adding another RM8,328), I simply couldn't justify spending that much on that piece, as beautiful and seductive as it was.
