Restoration Project : 2009 Rolex Submariner Date 16610LN

Well, this was not a confirmed project as yet; but I could be taking in the above 2009 Rolex SubDate 16610LN as part-trade towards one of my new Rolex watches; with the intention to proceed on a restoration project. The above watch belongs to a fellow reader of our blog; and was currently in a bit of a tired outlook given that it was his daily beater over the last 9 years.

I would be effecting a full service of the said watch, replacement of the aluminium bezel, full polishing job to take away the scratches, dings and dents, etc. This could either be a Rolex job, or undertaken by one of my partner watchsmiths.

A full boxed set like this 16610LN example, definitely deserved a 2nd lease on life. Stay tuned and see if this project does take place in the near future...

What do you think of the above? Send me an e-mail if you would like to see this restoration project taking off...

  2. My hubby and I are avid readers here. Will park ourselves for this project as he has a 16610 too. Can you help?

  4. Surely a service and polish does not constitute as "restoration"? More "maintenance" if you ask me. I would advise against polishing as well.

  5. Well, a maintenance would meant to just change the lubrication and gasket, and leave the rest intact. A fellow collector whom wanted to take on the 16610LN wanted it to be back in showroom condition, meaning a new bezel is in the order of the day, full polishing (and more, to fix the dings and dents), new sapphire to avoid any chips unseen by the naked eye, etc. Everyone has a different "want" towards their new acquisition. In your case, it would probably be just a spit&wipe job; but you are not looking to acquire a 16610LN by any chance, are you?

    1. Well, if Datuk could fix and restore that 16610LN like your description, I would be happy to pay RM22k for the watch.
